Lots of dog waste? Might be poor quality food.

When clients report that their dog is going potty numerous times per day and they are having house training problems, I always recommend that they look at the quality of the food.

Inexpensive foods that contain corn, soy, grains and animal byproducts are usually not utilized as well by a dog’s body and therefore are eaten during breakfast and dinner  and are excreted during potty breaks in large, often extra smelly quantities.

My dog is a finicky eater

This topic comes up quite frequently with my private clients. Dogs of all ages and sizes can be finicky eaters. While I normally don’t like to contribute to “breedism” I have found in my experience that small breeds can be more finicky than large breeds.

Dogs don't live long enough

It has been a rough couple of months with dogs that I know passing away prematurely. Two of my client's wonderful dogs died of cancer at a very young age. I hear more and more stories about this happening and it is difficult to know if it is happening more frequently or I hear about it more because I know thousands of dogs.

Dog Summertime Tips

Wow is it hot. In Chicago it has been near 90 degrees every day for more than a week. I feel for those of you in hotter areas such as California or Arizona.

But wherever you live, it is important to keep in mind some basic safety tips for dogs. If you ever suspect your dog having problems due to the heat or ingesting something, get him or to the vet immediately.
