Coda--a 10 month LhasaPoo has been a joy--except he hates to be alone and tends to have accidents when left alone.
We got Coda when he was four months old and supposedly crate trained. I think that was a misnomer--he seemed mostly trained to go in his crate and from the beginning accidents inside the crate were not uncommon. On the other hand, he was relatively easy to train around home as long as we were home. He goes to the door when he needs to go outside and is able to sleep the night through--in fact, he often doesn't go outside from about 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The problem is that he continues to have accidents when left alone during the day. We gave up on the crate because he basically got hysterical when we left him in it--a problem that got worse rather than better. Plus, we'd come home at the end of the day and have to wash Coda, crate and bedding. Now we section him off in the entryway of the house--an area that has ceramic tiles. He rarely urinates on the floor but he often has "poop" accidents. Time doesn't seem to be a huge factor--in fact, since the evidence is usually dry by the time I get home, I have an idea that the accident occurs rather soon after we leave.
The problem is probably made worse because we have two households--one in the country where we are about half the time and the other (a trailer) in town where I work. I've started taking him to day boarding but that doesn't seem to be the solution either.
I believe Coda has separation anxiety--I'm just not sure how to help him (and me).
Ideas?
Thanks,
June
